Yesterday, the ultra-liberal Editorial Board of The Washington Post opined that the Electoral College should be abolished. The Post is terrified that if President Trump is not declared the winner by the Electoral College this year – something that is yet to be decided – he might run again in 2024 and win in the Electoral College four years from now.
The Post writes, “It is alarming that a candidate came so close to winning while polling more than 5 million fewer votes than his opponent [Joe Biden] nationwide. The electoral college, whatever virtues it may have had for the Founding Fathers, is no longer tenable for American democracy.”
But, isn’t that the point of the Electoral College – to protect the minority from the majority? After all, the United States is a republic, not a pure democracy.
What is your opinion? Should the Electoral College be abolished?
