As The Hill notes in its coverage, “Walensky’s exit comes days before the federal government is set to end the declaration of a public health emergency around COVID-19. She has led the agency since the start of the Biden administration in January 2021.”
Further, “Earlier [today], the World Health Organization (WHO) announced it was downgrading its declaration of COVID-19 as a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), more than three years after it was first declared.”
