Formerly leading the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s intelligence division, Lamond was found guilty of leaking sensitive police information to Tarrio, amid the January 6 events at the U.S. Capitol.

This breach of trust unfolded during a critical period leading to January 6.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson presided over the trial, finding Lamond guilty of obstructing justice and making false statements.

Lamond, who retired in May 2023 after 23 years of service, came under scrutiny for his interactions with Tarrio.

Prosecutors accused him of providing Tarrio, under investigation for burning a Black Lives Matter banner, with critical updates and warnings about arrest warrants.

Defense arguments suggesting that Lamond’s intentions were to gather intelligence rather than support the Proud Boys fell flat.

Judge Jackson found the testimonies of both Lamond and Tarrio unreliable.

She cited Lamond’s pattern of communication with Tarrio, showing a clear flow of leaked information.

“Lamond and Tarrio talk, and Tarrio immediately disseminates what he learns,” Judge Jackson remarked, pinpointing the ongoing exchange of information, News4Jax reports.

Lying or not, Tarrio was labeled by the judge as an unreliable witness, stating he used his arrest as a PR stunt before January 6.

Tarrio ultimately pleaded guilty to the banner burning and was later sentenced to 22 years for his actions during the Capitol riots.

Meanwhile, Lamond’s sentencing is slated for April 3.

The defense expressed disappointment with the verdict, suggesting an appeal might be on the horizon.

Lamond professed he didn’t support the Proud Boys, stating, “I’m just going to let them get all freaked out. They’re idiots.”

However, evidence to the contrary, showing expressed sympathy, left many questioning his true alliances.

With the trial ending without a jury’s input, Lamond’s actions draw severe concerns regarding the integrity of law enforcement partnerships.
