(TheRedAlertNews.com) – BREAKING NOW: Just moments ago, in what the United States Department of Justice described as “significant national security cases addressing malign influence schemes and alleged criminal activity by a nation-state actor in the United States,” U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the Department of Justice has indicted multiple Chinese agents and spies for alleged criminal acts conducted by those agents and spies within in the United States.
Garland was accompanied by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, Assistant Attorney General for National Security Matthew Olsen, and FBI Director Christopher Wray at the press conference held at the United States Department of Justice in Washington, DC.
Simultaneous to Garland’s announcement, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York released a press release headlined “Two Chinese Intelligence Officers Charged with Obstruction of Justice in Scheme to Bribe U.S. Government Employee and Steal Documents Related to the Federal Prosecution of a PRC-Based Company.”
In part, that statement reads:
“A criminal complaint was unsealed today in federal court in Brooklyn charging two People’s Republic of China (PRC) intelligence officers with attempting to obstruct a criminal prosecution in the Eastern District of New York. The defendants remain at large.
“According to court documents, Guochun He, also known as “Dong He” and “Jacky He,” and Zheng Wang, also known as “Zen Wang,” allegedly orchestrated a scheme to steal files and other information from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York related to the ongoing federal criminal investigation and prosecution of a global telecommunications company (Company-1) based in the PRC, including by paying approximately $61,000 in Bitcoin bribes to a U.S. government employee who the defendants believed had been recruited to work for the PRC, but who in fact was a double agent working on behalf of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).”
In discussing the above case and other cases that were unveiled today in New Jersey and Virginia, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco stated:
“The cases unsealed today take place against a backdrop of malign activity from the People’s Republic of China that includes espionage, harassment, obstruction of our justice system, and unceasing efforts to steal sensitive U.S. technology.”
