His tweet was immediately met by criticism from the left, saying that Musk had already violated his stated intent of providing a politically balanced, free-speech platform.
In a two-tweet thread, Musk stated:
To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic.

Also, in a series of tweets that he has since deleted, Musk made fun of those leaving Twitter for a social media platform called Mastodon.
Musk referred to the site as “Masterbatedone” and, using a screenshot of a filthy computer screen, implied that New York Times columnist Paul Krugman’s computer screen was dirty with semen from masturbation.
It remains to be seen whether Musk will have any influence over the election, but it’s clear that he believes he can use Twitter to do so.
