(TheRedAlertNews.com) – ALERT: After weeks of speculation about whether or not she would travel to Taiwan given the threats to her physical safety and the national security of the United States issued by China, United States House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi will soon land in Taiwan and spend close to a day on the ground — the most significant visit by a high-ranking U.S. elected official since then-Speaker Newt Gingrich traveled there in 1997.
As Newsmax reports in “Report: Pelosi to Visit Taiwan Despite Warnings“:
“U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will visit Taiwan, despite threats from China, CNN is reporting.
The news network on Monday morning cited two unnamed sources, a senior government official from Taiwan and a U.S. official, that Pelosi plans to make a stop there with her delegation even though the Biden administration also has advised against it.
The official from Taiwan told CNN that Pelosi’s plans call for her to stay in Taiwan overnight, but it’s not clear when she would land in the country.” [emphasis added]
The actual arrival time is being kept a secret for security purposes, although China has the surveillance capabilities to know precisely where Pelosi’s aircraft is at any given time.
In anticipation of Pelosi’s visit, the United States military has been beefing up combat assets in the area in case China takes aggressive action toward Pelosi and her entourage.
“Nikkei Asia is reporting that the naval assets in the region include the amphibious assault ship USS America, which has been forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, and the USS Ronald Reagan, returning to the South China Sea after its port call to Singapore last week. The amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli is also near Okinawa.” [emphasis added]
Somewhat surprisingly, in a time when bipartisanship is all but non-existent, there is bipartisan support for Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan when it comes to congressional Republicans and Democrats. Taiwan is a significant American ally, and many House Republicans are staunch supporters of the symbolism of a Speaker of the House visiting the island country.
Additionally, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has endorsed and encouraged Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, stating, “Nancy Pelosi must go to Taiwan in August,” in an article posted on his website Gingrich 360. He said that doing so “would be a powerful signal to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) General Secretary Xi Jinping that he should drop any plans to invade or intimidate Taiwan.”
