Kyiv’s forces targeted a chemical and ammunition plant in southern Russia using US and UK-supplied missiles, reportedly including the long-range ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles.

Russia accuses Ukraine of launching these missiles at Rostov, a crucial military airfield.

The attack, supported allegedly by Western weapons, has prompted Moscow to promise retaliatory measures.

Moscow’s declaration comes amidst a backdrop of heightened military activity, and they have recaptured land in the Kursk region from Ukraine.

The escalating missile exchanges are a cause of concern for European leaders, many of whom are under pressure to remain united against the Russian threat.

However, Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, retorted that the strikes delivered “tangible blows against Russian targets,” France24 reports.

Russia’s army contends that two missiles were intercepted by air defense systems, but the damage was already inflicted.

They argue that these sophisticated arms from the West contribute to a dangerous escalation.

The potential use of hypersonic weapons, as hinted by President Putin, means Kyiv could face a new level of confrontation.

“This attack by Western long-range weapons will not go unanswered and appropriate measures will be taken,” Russia’s defense ministry said.

Ukraine confirmed hitting military and energy facilities, including an oil depot in Bryansk, stressing the ongoing tit-for-tat exchanges.

With over 200 drones and nearly 93 ballistic missiles fired by Russia, the situation grows more perilous for both sides involved, as well as for their Western allies.

The US’s continual support for Ukraine, including the provision of nearly $1 billion in security aid, shows no sign of waning.

Meanwhile, Hungary’s Prime Minister has been criticized for his discussions with Putin, raising questions about European solidarity.

Kiev leaders warn that Moscow’s next move could involve the experimental Oreshnik missile, heightening fears of further warfare.

Despite the heavy bombardments, Ukraine’s defenses intercepted a significant number of missiles, thanks to Western-supplied F-16 warplanes.

As the attack compromised Ukraine’s energy sector, causing blackouts throughout the nation, it’s clear Russia aims to weaken morale and disrupt defense production.

Zelensky condemns these tactics as terrorizing millions and calls for a massive international response.

President Zelensky has been vocal about maintaining European unity against the Russian threat, stressing, “No one should boost (their) personal image at the expense of unity, everyone should focus on shared success.”
