American On Trial for TREASON?! (Video)

( – In a new horror story coming out of Putin’s Russia, a Russian-American woman, who was detained earlier this year while on a familial visit in Russia, has now faced trial on charges of treason that carry the possibility of a life sentence.

Authorities accused her of fundraising to support the Ukrainian military for donating $50 to a New York-based charity, The New York Post reports.

Ksenia Karelina, a native of Russia who had established a new career as an aesthetician at a Los Angeles spa following her migration to the United States over ten years ago, risks a prison term ranging from 12 years to life if convicted.

The proceedings are to occur privately, following the norm for such trials in Russia, where acquittals on charges of treason are exceedingly uncommon.

In a brief video released by the court in Yekaterinburg, a city in the Urals, Karelina was seen confined in a glass enclosure, dressed in jeans and a green plaid shirt, offering a slight smile while photographers captured the moment.

Currently, Karelina is among at least a dozen Americans incarcerated in Russia, which underscores the escalating number of international detainees amid deteriorating diplomatic ties between Moscow and Washington throughout the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The Federal Security Service of Russia apprehended Karelina in January during a visit to her hometown of Yekaterinburg, where she planned to see her parents and younger sister.

Her visit was prompted by an unexpected gift of a plane ticket from her boyfriend during the New Year celebrations, recounted her former mother-in-law, Eleonora Srebroski, to Reuters in February.

Despite potential risks, Karelina reassured her boyfriend that her travel to Russia was safe.

Initially detained on a minor charge of “petty hooliganism,” the charges against Karelina were later escalated to treason.

Srebroski disclosed that Karelina had contributed a modest sum to Razom for Ukraine, a New York-based nonprofit organization committed to providing non-military support to Ukraine following its invasion by Russian forces in 2022.

In her early thirties, Karelina first entered the U.S. in 2012 through a work-study program and was briefly married to Srebroski’s son.

Described by her ex-husband as a fun-loving individual indifferent to political issues, Karelina’s social media is filled with images of her with friends at the beach and on various trips, conspicuously absent of any political content.

A notable photo from November 2021 features her in a long dress, joyously waving a small American flag, captioned simply, “Citizenship.”
