(TheRedAlertNews.com) – As part of the grim consequences of a road rage incident that unfolded tragically in Plano, Texas, a perpetrator, Robert Crolley, was sentenced to 40 years for shooting Uber driver Guillermo Martinez six times in a senseless act of aggression.
Despite claiming self-defense, Crolley’s narrative fell apart under scrutiny, leading to a conviction many feel was just.
On March 3, 2023, the intersection of Parker Road and Ranier Road became the scene of an altercation that would change lives forever.
Guillermo Martinez, simply trying to earn a living, became the target of Robert Crolley’s road rage.
Martinez, who bravely called 911 despite severe injuries, spent months recovering in the hospital, struggling to piece together his life after the attack.
The incident left Martinez with a chilling recollection.
“The guy shot me six times. I got six shots in me. I got my phone, and I called 911,” he recalled during a FOX 4 interview in June.
Through eyewitness accounts and security footage, authorities swiftly identified Crolley as the shooter.
Rather than accepting responsibility, Crolley muddied the waters further by claiming self-defense.
However, the jury found no evidence supporting his assertion that Martinez had posed any threat.
In fact, text messages revealed Crolley’s attempts to evade the law, fearing police detection while possibly under the influence.
Plano Police emphasized, “We are grateful to the Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office for their dedicated work on this case. The survivor experienced significant pain and turmoil following the incident, and we hope the sentencing aids in their healing process,” as cited by Irving Weekly.
Crolley’s sentence took into account not only his actions during the road rage incident but also his prior criminal record, which made him a repeat offender.
His previous convictions for grand larceny and assault raised significant concerns about his threat level to the community.
The ruling was clear: a 40-year sentence with an additional $4,000 fine was deemed appropriate given the severity of his crimes.
The district attorney reiterated the broader risks posed by road rage, reminding the public, “Road rage is a threat to every driver on our roads, and it has no place in Collin County. This victim didn’t know his attacker and did nothing wrong—he was just doing his job when he nearly lost his life.”
