(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Illegal aliens are increasingly entering the United States from Canada, with one sector of the Northern Border – the Swanton Sector – seeing a spike of over 700% in apprehensions last quarter.
The Swanton Sector includes New York and Vermont border regions, whose weather conditions could be life-threatening during winter.
In the first quarter of the 2023 fiscal year, from October 1 until December 31, 2022, US Border Agents caught 1,146 illegal immigrants in the Swanton Sector of the US-Canadian Border.
That is an increase of nearly 743% compared with the 136 illegal immigrants apprehended there in the same quarter of the fiscal year 2022, according to data from the US Customs and Border Protection agency.
A CBP report reveals that Border Patrol agents caught more illegals in the Swanton Sector in the first quarter of FY 2023 than in the entire F& 2022.
It also made it clear that apprehension numbers grew for seven months in a row, starting in May 2022.
In another comparison revealing the spike in Northern Border arrests, the CBP data shows 2,004 illegals were caught in the Swanton Sector in the three fiscal years from 2020 until 2022, while 1,866 migrants were apprehended only in the eight months between May 1 and December 31, 2022.
“Combined apprehensions and encounters in Fiscal Year 2023 have already surpassed that of Fiscal Year 2022 and recent trends represent a sustained increase in illegal border crossings as we head into the harshest winter months,” said a statement by Swanton Sector officials cited by Breitbart News.
It pointed out the sector’s “rural and remote areas and ranges from mountains to lowland swamps” and its “sub-freezing temperatures” during the long “regional winter.”
Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia said his staff’s “greatest concern” was “the preservation” of the lives of the community residents, the border agents, and the illegals who get apprehended – including “individuals, families, and children.”
“Unfortunately, the transnational criminal organizations that stand to profit from the increased flow of human traffic care only about profits and have no concern for the welfare of those whose plight they seek to exploit for financial gain,” Garcia declared.
In one case in the Northern Border’s Swanton Sector in December, Border Patrol Agents working close to North Troy, Vermont, saved several groups of illegal immigrants from likely death in the freezing weather.
In one case, the rescued illegal aliens included a family with young children.
The report notes that US prosecutors are “aggressively applying legal consequences to human smugglers working” in the Swanton Sector of the Northern Border.
