Once again, our nation’s security is compromised by those who are sworn to protect it, as two U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers are embroiled in a scandal that exposes the dangerous vulnerabilities at our borders.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Farlis Almonte and Ricardo Rodriguez are charged with conspiracy to bring in aliens for financial gain and receipt of bribes by a public official.

They operated at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the busiest in the country. This revelation shines a spotlight on issues that demand immediate action to uphold national security.

The officers reportedly accepted bribes to allow vehicles filled with undocumented migrants to pass, reports AP.

Investigators uncovered phone evidence, revealing a connection with human traffickers in Mexico.

This breach facilitated illegal activity that threatened the safety of every American.

Details of the investigation revealed that smuggling operations were carefully coordinated.

Agents reportedly informed co-conspirators in Mexico about their assigned lanes to facilitate unlawful crossings.

Almonte and Rodriguez are alleged to have each received thousands of dollars per van that successfully crossed under this illicit arrangement.

“Prosecutors said the suspects received thousands of dollars for each van they allowed to cross the border,” reports The NY Daily News.

Incriminating evidence included screenshots of messages showing the exchange of shift details with smugglers.

Surveillance video backed these claims, capturing vehicles being waved through without proper documentation.

Nearly $70,000 was seized from Almonte’s romantic partner, indicating the depth of this travesty.

“Any Customs and Border Protection agent who aids or turns a blind eye to smugglers bringing undocumented immigrants into the U.S. is betraying their oath and endangering our national security,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden.

With past incidents involving other border agents, it’s clear that more drastic measures are necessary.

Leonard Darnell George, a former inspector, faced severe consequences for similar crimes, and yet, the threats persist.

This systemic issue requires a robust response to prevent further betrayal of our nation’s trust.
