The price of gasoline at the pump in the United States of America just reached a new all-time high.
The new record comes just as American families are planning their summer road trips.
The news comes from AAA, which just announced that the national average price for regular gasoline reached a new record high on Tuesday, having jumped five cents from the previous day and 17 cents in the last week.
The new high is $4.37 a gallon, which eclipses the previous record of $4.33 set back on March 11th.
“With the cost of oil accounting for more than half of the pump price, more expensive oil means more expensive gasoline,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said. “These prices are creeping closer to those record-high levels of early March.”
As for the Biden administration, it continues to blame Russian President Vladimir Putin for rising prices at the pump.
One firm that tracks prices, Yardeni Research, says the average American household will end up paying $2,000 more for gasoline in 2022 than during the previous year.
