BREAKING VIDEO: Garland Personally Approved Trump Search Warrant

( – BREAKING NOW: Just moments ago, during a press conference held at the United States Department of Justice headquarters in Washington, DC, United States Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that he personally approved the search warrant for the search of former President Donald Trump’s residence at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

You can watch the video of that portion of Garland’s statement further down this post.

Garland’s statement that he signed off on the search warrant came as part of his announcement that the Department of Justice has filed a legal motion to have the search warrant unsealed and made public.

Garland noted that it was Trump who made the existence of the search known, not the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Department of Justice.

In the portion of the press conference captured below, Garland stated:

“Federal law, long-standing Department [of Justice] rules, and our ethical obligations prevent me from providing further details as to the basis of the search at this time. There are, however, certain points I want you to know.

“First, I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter.

“Second, the department does not take such a decision lightly. Where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken.

“Third, let me address recent unfounded attacks on the professionalism of the FBI and Justice Department agents and prosecutors. I will not stand by silently when their integrity is unfairly attacked. The men and women of the FBI and Justice Department are dedicated, patriotic public servants. Every day, they protect the American people from violent crime, terrorism, and other threats to their safety while safeguarding our civil rights. They do so at great personal sacrifice and risk to themselves. I am honored to work alongside them.”
