(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In a bombshell prediction about what millions believe are leftist judicial attacks against Donald Trump, Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz has forecast that the Republican presidential candidate will most likely get a suspended prison sentence in his so-called “hush-money” trial.
New York Judge Juan Merchan has decided to postpone former President Donald Trump’s sentencing for his New York business records convictions until after the election.
This delay, according to Dershowitz, allows the judge more leeway in sentencing the Republican nominee.
On Newsmax’s “Sunday Report,” Dershowitz expressed his view that Judge Merchan is unlikely to send the GOP presidential nominee to jail.
“I think he might suspend the sentence, but I think he’s going to say this conviction warrants imprisonment,” he stated.
“Of course it doesn’t. It warrants nothing, but I think that’s what he’s going to do or give him a probationary sentence and home confinement,” the law professor added.
Dershowitz wasn’t surprised by Merchan’s decision to delay the sentencing.
“I thought it would happen. It gives [Merchan] a lot more freedom and flexibility. If Trump were to lose the election, he could actually sentence him to prison. He wouldn’t be able to sentence him to prison if there were an ongoing election and he was still a candidate,” he remarked.
Further, Dershowitz criticized the case against Trump as a “total fraud” and suggested that the judge and prosecutors be “disciplined” for bringing the case to court.
“There’s no crime. Look, I am probably the most experienced criminal lawyer in this country with 60 years of teaching, practicing, and writing about criminal law. I don’t understand the charges,” he declared.
Trump was convicted earlier this year by a jury on 34 counts of falsifying business records linked to hush money payments to Stormy Daniels, a former adult film actress who claims to have had a sexual encounter with him. Trump has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and Daniels’ claims.
Dershowitz also pointed out that the charges would typically be misdemeanors that would be barred by the statute of limitations, but were instead being treated as a felony.
“It’s the most absurd criminal charge I’ve seen in my 60 years of being an expert in criminal law,” he argued.
“And if I can’t figure it out, how do you expect the defendant, a nonlawyer like Donald Trump, to understand that? By allowing his accountant to list the legal expense, he would be committing a felony based on this combined, felony misdemeanor statute of limitations,” the law professor elaborated.
The charges, Dershowitz argued, should be dismissed as there is no substantial case, potentially putting Trump at risk of imprisonment unjustly.
“It just proves the weaponization [of justice]. If this man’s name was not Donald Trump, there isn’t a chance in a million that he would be prosecuted for it … it’s an outrage to every American,” he stated.
