DeSantis Not Only Won, His Victory Was THIS Big

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis

( – Florida’s Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis, won Tuesday’s gubernatorial election in the state with a lead of almost 20 points, or more than 1.5 million voters, over his Democrat challenger, Charlie Crist.

With 100% of the votes counted, as of Wednesday evening, DeSantis won a second term by receiving 4,609,086 votes, or 59.4% of the votes.

Democrat US Rep. Charlie Crist attracted 3,102,089 votes, or 40% of all ballots cast.

DeSantis’ resounding victory is remarkable because four years ago, he won Florida’s gubernatorial election by a margin of only 32,463 votes or less than half a percentage point.

In 2018, the Republican winner got 4,076,186 votes vs. 4,043,723 for Democrat Andrew Gillum.

“Perhaps most stunning is the fact that DeSantis took traditionally blue counties this time around,” Breitbart News wrote in a report.

The most notable development in that regard has been DeSantis’ win of Miami-Dade County, Florida’s most populous, long considered a fortress of the Democratic Party.

The GOP incumbent won Miami-Dade by 11 points, while in 2018, he lost it by 10 points.

To make his victory in Miami-Dade even more remarkable, DeSantis won the county for the Republican Party for the first time in 20 years, after GOP gubernatorial candidate Jeb Bush last won it in 2002.

The 2022 gubernatorial race in Florida was called in DeSantis’ favor by The Associated Press not long after 8 pm EST after the polls had closed at 7 pm.

In his victory speech on election night, the reelected Republican governor argued that his victory had “rewritten the political map” of the United States.

“Florida held the line… We chose facts over fear. We chose education over indoctrination,” DeSantis declared.

“We have embraced freedom. We have maintained law and order. We have protected the rights of parents. We have respected our taxpayers, and we reject woke ideology,” he said, adding, “Florida is on the right track.”

“[It’s] apparent that this election we will have garnered a significant number of votes from people who may not have voted for me four years ago,” DeSantis said.

He emphasized how more and more Americans had been “voting with their feet” by moving to Florida.

“The results of that behavior have been just as stark as our landslide victory today; states and cities governed by leftist politicians have seen crime skyrocket. They’ve seen their taxpayers abused. They’ve seen medical authoritarianism imposed, and they’ve seen American principles discarded. The woke agenda has caused millions of Americans to leave these jurisdictions for greener pastures,” DeSantis elaborated.

He described his state of Florida as the “promised land” for many.
