(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has praised and sided with the ongoing unprecedented street protests in Communist China sparked by Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s draconian “zero COVID-19” lockdowns.
DeSantis spoke at a press conference on Tuesday, during which he also warned Apple not to go against Twitter amid reports the iPhone maker has cracked down on file sharing in China.
He insisted Chinese citizens are “right” to protest against the severe coronavirus lockdowns and the widespread human rights abuses committed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“This CCP has a maniacal desire to exert total control over its population,” declared DeSantis, who just reelected in a landslide and is deemed one of the top two contenders for the GOP’s 2024 presidential nomination.
“I just think we need these draconian COVID policies to go to the ash heap of history where they belong,” said the Florida governor, as cited by Fox News.
He slammed the CCP and Xi’s “zero COVID” policy as a “pretext” the Chinese Communist regime uses to tyrannize its people.
The unprecedented mass and often violent street protests in China, the biggest since the failed anti-communism protest of 1989, started last week as the regime has been imposing ferocious lockdowns on cities with COVID-19 infections.
The spark that ignited the protest outburst was a fire that killed ten people in an apartment building in Urumqi in northwest China because a lockdown delayed the local fire department’s reaction.
Videos with violent clashes between Chinese protesters and riot police have abounded on social media, featuring for the first time calls for “freedom” and the removal of Xi Jinping.
The Chinese Communist regime has responded with a massive riot police operation, managing to “restore order” in Beijing and Shanghai.
Against that backdrop, unlike DeSantis’ stance in support of the Chinese protesters, President Joe Biden and his administration have given very scant comments, refusing to support the demonstrations and denounce the Chinese Communist regime.
“The White House supports the right of peaceful protest,” a representative of the Biden administration has said.
In his press conference, Florida’s Republican governor blasted Apple for aiding the Xi Jinping regime by limiting the AirDrop file-sharing service for Chinese iPhone users. The service would have allowed them to overcome public censorship and spread the news about the spontaneous protests.
DeSantis said Apple was thus “providing aid and comfort” to the Chinese Communist Party.
He also slammed it for “threatening to remove Twitter from the app store because Elon Musk is actually opening it up for free speech.”
“That would be a huge, huge mistake, and it would be a really raw exercise of monopolistic power that I think would merit a response from the United States Congress,” DeSantis stated.
“Don’t be a vassal of the CCP on one hand and then use your corporate power in the United States on the other to suffocate Americans and try to suppress their right to express themselves,” Florida’s Republican governor declared.
