The DNC-goers are provided with the opportunity to access free vasectomies and abortions just blocks from the event at the United Center, The Daily Caller reports.
The organization Planned Parenthood Great Rivers, operating across parts of Missouri and Illinois, will deploy its mobile health clinic in proximity to the DNC on August 19 and August 20.
Both days will offer medication abortions, with vasectomies available exclusively on Monday.
The demand for appointments in the vasectomy vehicle is substantial, leading to a burgeoning waitlist, The New York Times notes in a report.
Potential candidates for sterilization are required to complete a Google Form, providing personal details such as name, birth date, and contact information to reserve a place in the queue.
The form states, “Services will be provided on a sliding-fee scale — pay what you can and get the healthcare you need.”
Individuals seeking medication abortions have the option to register online as well, though currently, there is no waitlist for these services, enabling potential walk-ins without prior appointments, the outlet reports.
Vice President Kamala Harris, anticipated to be the Democratic presidential nominee for 2024, has vocally supported abortion rights following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on June 24, 2022, to overturn Roe v. Wade.
On January 22, 2024, the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Harris launched a nationwide tour advocating for abortion rights in Wisconsin.
A White House release detailing her “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour quoted her emphasizing abortion as one of the “fundamental freedoms.”
Harris, alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is slated to address issues related to abortion and IVF during their speeches at the DNC.
Pro-abortion advocacy groups have scheduled demonstrations for the evening prior to the DNC’s commencement.
In May, abortion rights activists initiated legal action against the city of Chicago following the city’s announcement that it would not issue permits for marches outside the convention venue, as per ABC7 Chicago.
The protests are expected to feature a substantial “inflatable IUD,” which activists have dubbed “Freeda Womb,” according to The New York Times.
Concurrently, over a dozen local businesses in Chicago have preemptively fortified their premises with plywood, anticipating potentially violent protests during the DNC, WGN9 reports.
