(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In what could only be described as an act of chickening out at a decisive moment for the GOP, former Republican President George W. Bush has opted not to formally endorse any candidate in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
The former president, along with his wife Laura Bush, has decided not to publicly disclose their voting preferences, his spokesperson conveyed to several news organizations on Saturday, The Hill reports.
According to a statement from his office reported by NBC News, “President Bush retired from presidential politics years ago.”
This declaration of neutrality follows closely on the heels of an announcement from his former vice president, Dick Cheney, who has chosen a different path by confirming his support for Vice President Harris.
This endorsement was first brought to light by Cheney’s daughter, former Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY), during an event at the Texas Tribune Festival on Friday.
Democrat candidate Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude for the endorsement on Saturday, recognizing the significance of such public support.
“And them stepping up to make this public statement, I think is courageous, but also for the folks I was just talking with, it really reinforces for them that we love our country and we have more in common than what separates us,” she stated.
Reacting to Cheney’s endorsement of Harris, former President Donald Trump took to TruthSocial to voice his disdain, labeling Dick Cheney as an “irrelevant RINO”—a pejorative acronym for “Republican in Name Only.”
He added, “Dick Cheney is an irrelevant RINO, along with his daughter, who lost by the largest margin in the History of Congressional Races!”
Earlier in the week, Liz Cheney, known for her vocal opposition to Trump, also declared her support for Harris.
She explained her decision, emphasizing her conservative values and constitutional concerns.
“As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Cheney said.
George W. Bush’s history of endorsements includes supporting Mitt Romney in 2012 and the now-deceased Senator John McCain in 2008, marking a shift from his previous engagements in presidential endorsements to his current stance of stepping back from the political forefront.
