(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Following days of protests outside three of the six conservative Supreme Court Justices’ homes, the GOP has voiced concern that the Biden administration is turning a blind eye to the illegal activity.
In a press conference on Wednesday, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) noted his disappointment that “this White House is still encouraging people to break federal law and go and protest in front of the houses of Supreme Court justices, as Jen Psaki encouraged yesterday.”
So far, protestors have targeted the homes of the author of the draft opinion, Justice Samuel Alito as well as Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) emphasized that it is “unlawful” to protest a sitting judge, referring to 18 U.S.C. § 1507, a federal code that deems picketing outside a Judge’s residence “with the intent of influencing” the judge illegal. The code also specifies that such activity could face a fine, imprisonment of up to a year, or both.
“We want to maintain the independence of our courts. And the fact that that is being encouraged by this administration is shameful. It’s unconstitutional. It’s meant to intimidate the justices,” Stefanik continued.
Her remarks follow a request White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki made to protestors on Tuesday to keep protests outside Justices’ homes “peaceful.”
Rather than condemn the seemingly unlawful action, Psaki said, “I know that there’s an outrage right now, I guess, about protests that have been peaceful to date, and we certainly continue to encourage that, outside of judges’ homes,” adding that this is also “the President’s position.”
