(TheRedAlertNews.com) – A report that the US Energy Department has concluded the COVID-19 pandemic started from a Chinese lab leak has caused an outburst of GOP demands that Communist China be held accountable.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal cited by Fox News, the Energy Department has joined the FBI in concluding that the coronavirus outbreak probably began with a laboratory mishap in China’s Wuhan.
The report is based on a classified intelligence document recently given to the White House and “key” members of the US Congress.
It pointed out the conclusion of the US Energy Department was “significant” because of the DE’s substantial expertise and network of US national laboratories, some dealing with advanced biological research.
Sources familiar with the document said the DE ranked its conclusion at “low confidence.” The 2021 FBI conclusion to the same end was classified as “moderate confidence.”
In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the theory about the Chinese lab leak was dismissed by Democrats, the mainstream media, Big Tech social media, and scientists as “misinformation” and a “conspiracy theory,” Fox News notes.
With evidence mounting that the Chinese Virology Institute in Wuhan may have let the coronavirus escape, leading Republican figures have called for accountability from the Chinese Communist Party.
“Re. China’s lab leak, being proven right doesn’t matter. What matters is holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable so this doesn’t happen again,” Republican US Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas wrote on Twitter.
“The elites and academics owe everyone who had legitimate questions and concerns about the origins of COVID an apology. The American people deserve to see all the information concerning the Chinese lab leak and the origins of COVID. This won’t be forgotten,” vowed Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO).
“So the government caught up to what Real America knew all along,” tweeted Republican US Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio.
“Americans knew this from Day One. Unfortunately, Big Tech and Big Government silenced them,” reacted Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ).
“4 [clown emojis] for Glenn,” posted GOP US Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, referring to Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler.
Kessler had previously declared that “it is virtually impossible for this virus jump from the lab” in an attack on Cruz.
“The American people deserve the full truth about #covid origins. No more whitewash. I will again introduce legislation to make the US government’s intelligence reports on covid open to the people,” Republican US Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri tweeted.
“[Former White House adviser Dr. Anthony] Fauci knew this immediately but dismissed it because of funding for the Wuhan lab,” wrote Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO).
“We know what happened next — when Fauci spoke Big Tech censored. I exposed this collusion as AG and I’ll work to ensure this type of censorship never happens again,” he added.
“Big Tech censored information indicating COVID resulted from a lab leak. Now, Biden’s own Energy Department is saying that’s the most likely cause. We need accountability – for both the Chinese Communist Party and Big Tech,” tweeted Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
