GOP to Biden: Surrender THIS Data On Illegals

(TheRedAlertNews.com) – A group of Republican lawmakers is demanding the Biden administration reveal how many illegal immigrants have been prosecuted for their unlawful crossing of the U.S. border.

Many, if not most illegal immigrants are supposed to be expelled under the so-called “expedited removal,” while others could be classified as asylum-seekers and allowed a court hearing before an immigration judge, which is usually a lengthy process, The Washington Times wrote in a report.

“The Biden administration has allowed record numbers to end up in that long process, effectively giving them a foothold here in the U.S. while they await rulings that take years,” the report pointed out.

“Even if they are eventually ordered deported, analysts say the chance that they’ll leave is slim,” it added.

Illegal immigrants, or “border jumpers,” could be prosecuted since violating the U.S. border is a misdemeanor – “yet those cases are rarely brought,” the Times noted.

Fourteen Republican U.S. lawmakers led by Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona on Monday sent a letter to President Joe Biden’s Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, and Attorney General Merrick Garland. They demanded information on how many illegals had been indicted for violating the U.S. border.

“Nearly 2 million illegal aliens have been processed under immigration authorities since Joe Biden took office and I suspect that most of these illegal aliens have not been prosecuted by the Biden administration given its evisceration of immigration enforcement,” Rep. Biggs told The Times.

“The Biden administration should be enforcing the immigration laws on our books instead of giving a free pass to those unlawfully entering our country. Not enforcing our immigration laws is one of the many reasons that we are experiencing a historic border crisis,” the Arizona Republican said further.

According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which quotes CBP data and estimates, more than 5.5 million illegals have crossed into the U.S. since Biden entered the White House, including more than 1 million gotaways.

The GOP lawmakers’ demand comes after last week, a federal judge based in Washington, DC, ruled to end the Title 42 public health policy, under which more than 2.4 illegals have been expelled since March 2020.

The judge allowed the policy to remain in place till December 21, but an even more massive illegal immigration surge is expected at the Southern border after that.

Data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University shows that in June 2022, the Biden administration launched 523 illegal entry prosecutions even though it apprehended over 192,000 illegal immigrants.

It also began 13,147 prosecutions on “illegal reentry,” a felony, though not all were Southern Border cases.

At the same time, 93,000 border crossers were expelled that month under Title 42 policy, which left about 85,000 others who were neither expelled nor prosecuted.

“The majority were likely caught and released,” the report concluded.
