GOP Wants Armed Guards at All US Schools

(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Two Republican US senators have initiated anew a bill to boost security at public and private schools nationwide, a move that came after last Monday’s massacre at a Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee.

The draft “Securing Aid for Every (SAFE) School” Act has been proposed by Senator Marsha Blackburn and co-sponsored by Senator Bill Hagerty, who represent Tennessee in the Senate.

Three nine-year-old children and three school staffers were murdered on March 27 at Covenant Presbyterian School in Nashville, a private Christian institution.

The slaughter was committed by 28-year-old Audrey Hale, a woman identifying as a “transgender man.”

If adopted by Congress, the SAFE School Act will establish a $900 million federal grant to fund “armed guards, veterans, or police” for K-12 schools throughout the United States, Newsmax reported.

“I am beyond heartbroken at the shooting that occurred at The Covenant School in Nashville. No parent should have to endure what these families are experiencing. Schools should be places where children are safe to learn, play, and be children,” Blackburn said in a video address.

“My legislation with Sen. Hagerty will allow both public and private schools to train and hire veterans and former law enforcement officers to serve as school safety officers as well as increase physical security measures to harden schools. By providing these critical funds, we can help protect our precious children and secure our schools,” the GOP senator argued.

The bill co-sponsor, Senator Hagerty, dwelled in a statement on the importance of the swift and effective police reaction to the Covenant School shooting, which most likely saved lives.

“The heroic bravery of law enforcement officers and first responders who quickly ran into danger, as well as the actions of teachers, staff, and students who deployed security measures, saved many other lives and underscore the critical role of school-security planning and personnel in the face of depraved, evil acts,” Hagerty declared.

“That’s why I’ve joined Senator Blackburn in introducing this legislation to provide additional security resources to keep our schools and children safe,” the GOP senator added, as cited by Breitbart News.

A Fox News report in the aftermath of the Nashville school massacre revealed that Covenant Presbyterian School had no armed officers on its campus who could have defended the students and staffers from the armed shooter.

Tennessee’s Republican Governor Bill Lee, whose family was friends with two of the murdered school staffers, also supported the SAFE School Act.

“Nothing is more important than our students safely returning home from school every day. At the state level, Tennessee is taking significant action to strengthen physical security at schools, support law enforcement, engage parents and boost mental health resources,” Lee stated.

“As Tennessee moves forward, I commend Sens. Blackburn and Hagerty for proposing legislation to secure public and private schools across the nation,” the GOP governor declared.
