Happening Now: Pence Challenges Trump

Former Vice President Mike Pence

(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In yet another indication that former Vice President Mike Pence is preparing to challenge former President Donald Trump for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Pence has thrust himself into this year’s Georgia governor’s race by endorsing the candidate who is running against Trump’s endorsed candidate.

Pence has endorsed and is campaigning for Georgia’s current Governor, Brian Kemp. In contrast, Trump has endorsed and is campaigning for former U.S. Senator David Perdue to prevent Kemp from being reelected.

As The Washington Times reports, “Former Vice President Mike Pence will campaign with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp next week, splitting with former President Donald Trump who endorsed Mr. Kemp’s Republican opponent after a dispute over election fraud claims…The endorsement will pit Mr. Trump against Mr. Pence in the primary. The two no longer speak, and Mr. Pence has not supported Mr. Trump’s election fraud claims.”

“Mr. Trump has been eager to defeat Mr. Kemp since 2020, when Mr. Kemp refused to help the former president overturn Georgia’s election results, which provided a narrow win for President Biden.”

In supporting Kemp with the goal of defeating Trump’s preferred candidate, Pence said of Kemp, “Brian Kemp is my friend, a man dedicated to faith, family and the people of Georgia. I am proud to offer my full support for four more years of Brian Kemp as governor of the great state of Georgia!”

One thing is undeniably true. On Tuesday, May 24th, the nation will be watching Georgia’s election returns to see whether Pence or Trump can claim they pushed their endorsed candidate over the finish line and into the winner’s circle.
