Has This Senator Lost Her Mind?

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)

(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Throughout the history of the United States Senate, more than a few Senators have served long after their mental capabilities had declined to the degree that they could not possibly serve their country or their state at the level expected.

Both Sens. Strom Thurmond (R-SC) and Robert Byrd (D-WV) remained in office long after they were able to function. Still, they cast votes — often being wheeled in by staffers who were fulfilling the duties of the office because the Senators couldn’t — votes that they couldn’t possibly understand.

Now, serious questions are being raised — mostly on background with reporters — about Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) ability to mentally function at a level necessary for a United States Senator to make critical public policy decisions.

As Breitbart recounts in a recent article:

“The San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday that a growing number of lawmakers are concerned that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who is 88 years old, is in a state of mental decline so severe that she may need to resign in the near future.”

According to the Chronicle:

“Four U.S. senators, including three Democrats, as well as three former Feinstein staffers and a California Democratic member of Congress told The Chronicle in recent interviews that her memory is rapidly deteriorating. They said it appears she can no longer fulfill her job duties without her staff doing much of the work required to represent the nearly 40 million people of California.”

And yet, under the Constitution, there is no way to remove a Senator from office due to mental decline between elections. So, California and the rest of the United States are stuck with Feinstein until at least 2024, when her term expires.
