(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Making a desperate decision to keep some details about his family’s foreign business deals hidden, Hunter Biden changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on a range of tax charges.
By doing so, Hunter avoids the drama of a scandal-packed trial that could have revealed questionable details about Joe Biden’s influence-peddling while in office.
Originally, his legal team pushed for an “Alford” plea, where Hunter would admit guilt but still claim innocence.
This did not sit well with prosecutors, leading to a straightforward guilty plea instead.
A former federal prosecutor suggested that the plea shift was to secure a quick resolution and possibly set up a pardon from Joe despite his previous statements against doing so.
This potential pardon could come at any time while Joe is in office until January 2025.
Former congressional chief counsel Samuel Dewey stated that this plea might be part of a strategy to keep damaging details about Joe under wraps.
The trial was expected to dive into accusations of international influence peddling that might have implicated the entire Biden family.
Dewey pointed to evidence that Hunter was involved in lobbying “U.S. State Department officials on behalf” of a Romanian businessman charged with bribery.
He theorized that this sudden plea could be a strategic move to avoid prison time until after the upcoming elections to minimize political fallout.
A congressional investigation has found that the Biden family amassed about $27 million from foreign dealings, including with hostile nations.
Hunter faced nine tax evasion charges, including three felonies, to which he confessed.
Judge Mark Scarsi outlined the potential consequences of up to 15 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
Prosecutor Leo Wise laid out all allegations, highlighting Hunter’s “shady overseas deals with Romanian businessman Gabriel Popoviciu who has been convicted of bribery, and with Chinese oil giant CEFC, which has been linked to a Chinese government influence operation.”
Wise also pointed out Hunter’s other financial missteps involving paying prostitutes and drug dealers over taxes.
The sentencing process will now proceed, with officials from probation and pretrial services tasked with crafting a sentencing recommendation.
