The illegal immigrant from Honduras committed those crimes in 2020, as disclosed by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Jose Orbin Martinez-Lopez, aged 46, received a life sentence for the assault of two girls, aged 11 and 12.

Subsequently, he forcibly entered their residence in September 2020, where he attempted to murder them and set their dwelling ablaze, according to the official statement cited by The Daily Caller.

The announcement further detailed that Martinez-Lopez attacked one of the girls, slashing her throat with a box cutter.

He then confined both victims in a room and ignited a fire within the premises before escaping the scene.

Emergency services managed to respond promptly, delivering critical aid to the girls, who both survived the ordeal, the statement indicated.

“We have to protect our community, our children, from monsters like this,” declared Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.

“Not only did he sexually assault two little girls, he tried to kill them and burn their house down to cover his tracks. He is a predator,” Ogg added.

Investigations by the Houston Police Department revealed that Martinez-Lopez was acquainted with the victims’ family and had executed the home invasion with the intent to kill the girls after they disclosed the abuse to their family members.

Authorities reported that Martinez-Lopez had planned his escape to Honduras but missed his initially scheduled flight.

Subsequent attempts to flee were thwarted when police apprehended him as he tried to board another flight departing from Houston.

Denise Nichols, head of the District Attorney’s Crimes Against Children Division, remarked, “I’ve been a prosecutor for 24 years, and this was one of the worst cases I’ve ever seen. After knowing everything that these girls went through, it is just amazing to see how much courage they had — this was their moment to tell what happened and get justice and move forward.”

The announcement clarified that Martinez-Lopez, who has no right to appeal the verdict, will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 30 years in prison.
