(TheRedAlertNews.com) – According to a new estimate, the millions of illegal immigrants who have been allowed to enter the United States on President Joe Biden’s watch will cost American taxpayers more than $20 billion per year.
Almost 5 million illegals have crossed the US border in the first 18 months of the Biden presidency, including an estimated 1 million gotaways, according to Customs and Border Protection figures. Many, if not most, have been allowed to remain in the United States.
A new study by FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform), an anti-illegal immigration group, now estimates that the illegal aliens who have entered the US since January 2021 will impose on the American public an additional financial burden of $20.4 billion.
These new US government expenditures will come on top of the $140 billion annual financial burden illegal immigrants in the country already cost the national budget.
FAIR calculates that the US spends $9,232 annually to support a single illegal immigrant. The number of new expenditures in American taxpayer money is based on an estimate that a total of an extra 2.3 million illegals are now in the country.
The number in question includes the nearly 1 million gotaways, plus another 1.3 million who have been released inside the country by the Biden administration.
“Even in an age in which trillion dollar spending packages and are considered modest, the additional $20.4 billion the Biden Border Crisis has heaped onto the backs of American taxpayers is still staggering,” FAIR President Dan Stein said in a statement.
“$20.4 billion could address some very important needs of the American public, instead of covering the costs of the surge of illegal migration triggered by this administration’s policies,” he added.
The anti-illegal immigration group estimates that the more than $20 billion in extra expenses to support the new illegal aliens could instead have been spent on several alternatives, such as hiring 330,000 school teachers; providing every homeless US veteran $50,000 per year over the next ten years; expanding the National School Lunch Program; giving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits to more than 7 million extra families; giving every family making less than $50,000 a year a $410 grocery voucher.
The extra $20.4 billion in the annual US spending on illegal immigrants could also be used to pay for the construction of the wall on the Southern Border, which started under former President Donald Trump.
