‘Let’s Go Brandon’ Hoodie Outlawed?!

(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In what seems like a blatant violation of the constitutional right to freedom of speech, a federal judge has upheld the decision of a Michigan school district to mandate that a student cannot wear a hoodie adorned with the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon!”

The anti-Biden slogan originated in October 2022 following NASCAR driver Brandon Brown’s first race victory. While Brown was being interviewed by an NBC reporter, many in the audience were audibly chanting “F*** Joe Biden!”

However, the reporter interpreted the crowd’s chants as “Let’s go, Brandon!”

Consequently, the phrase has come to serve as a euphemism for “F*** Joe Biden.”

According to the blog of law professor Jonathan Turley, in this instance, the plaintiff, identified only as “D.A.,” a student at Tri County Middle School, was instructed last spring by Assistant Principal Andrew Buikema and teacher Wendy Bradford to remove his hoodie bearing the phrase, as it was deemed to contravene the school’s dress code.

The dress code outlines the authority of school officials to evaluate whether a student’s attire violates state policy, poses a threat to health and safety, is deemed obscene, or disrupts the educational environment by drawing excessive attention to the individual.

Judge Paul Maloney of the Western District of Michigan supported the interpretation of “obscene” in this context, stating that the difference between the phrases was minimal, The College Fix reports.

“If schools can prohibit students from wearing apparel that contains profanity, schools can also prohibit students from wearing apparel that can reasonably be interpreted as profane,” Maloney articulated.

It was noted by the district that it had previously banned shirts displaying the phrases “Fet’s Luck” and “Uranus Liquor.”

Further, Maloney pointed out that school authorities have the right to forbid attire that displays messages such as “F#%* Joe Biden” or uses wordplays that suggest profanity, like “Somebody Went to HOOVER DAM And All I Got Was This DAM Shirt.”

“Because Defendants reasonably interpreted the phrase as having a profane meaning,” Maloney remarked, “the School District can regulate the wearing of ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ apparel during school hours without demonstrating that it caused actual interference or disruption…”

Jonathan Turley, a legal scholar, described the ruling as both “jarring and chilling.”

“The “Let’s Go Brandon” slogan transcends mere substitution for derogatory remarks directed at the President; it serves as a satirical critique of the media which often appears to function as an extension of the state. It represents a commentary on the interplay between the government and the media in influencing public perception and information,” he wrote.
