(TheRedAlertNews.com) – President Joe Biden has announced he finally plans to visit the US-Mexican border, which would be his first time there since he occupied the White House almost two years ago and oversaw a vast illegal immigration crisis.
“That’s my intention, we’re working out the details now,” Biden told reporters on Wednesday as he disembarked from Air Force One, as cited by Fox News.
When asked for more significant details, Biden resorted to what seemed like a joke, saying he wanted to see “peace and stability” at the border.
“What do you want to see when you go to the border?” a reporter asked.
“Peace and Security… No, I’m going to see what is going on,” Biden replied, as cited by The New York Post.
“I’m going to be making a speech tomorrow on border security, and you’ll hear more about it tomorrow,” he added.
It remains unclear when exactly Biden would go to the Southern border, but his visit there would likely be a stop during his trip to Mexico’s capital Mexico City on January 9-10th.
There, the president with meet with the heads of Canada and Mexico for the North American Leaders’ Summit.
Nearly 6 million illegal immigrants have come to the United States since Joe Biden took over the presidency two years ago. That includes over 1 million gotaways, according to Customs and Border Protection estimates.
Biden’s upcoming stop at the US-Mexican border may be not only the first in his presidency but also his first-ever specific border visit in a political career of almost half a century.
Despite claims he had been to the border before becoming president, the White House has been able to point to only one example of him coming close to it.
In 2008, Biden landed at the airport in El Paso, Texas, to go to an event in New Mexico and “briefly drove past the border.”
His motorcade took “a route that for a few minutes hugs the border of the United States and Mexico.”
The Democrat president sparked an uproar in December when he gave a speech at a new computer chips factory in Phoenix, Arizona. He stated he could not go to the Southern Border since he had “more important things” to do.
He had a similar message to the American public during a CNN town hall in October 2021.
“I guess I should go down [to the border]. But the whole point of it is I haven’t had a whole hell of a lot of time to get down,” Biden said at the time.
Meanwhile, his Department of Homeland Security has estimated that the number of illegals apprehended after crossing the border into the US could skyrocket. It will go from 7,000 to 14,000 or even 18,000 per day if the Trump-era expulsion policy known as Title 42 is lifted.
Presently, Title 42 is only kept alive by a lawsuit in the US Supreme Court.
