( – A grave new mass shooting has occurred during a block party in Detroit’s infamous “Red Zone,” leaving two deceased and 19 others injured.

This area, known for its prevalent gang activity, particularly the influence of the Seven Miles Bloods Street Gang, became the backdrop for this violent event, as reported by Click On Detroit, cited by The New York Post.

Around 2:25 a.m. on Sunday, on the East Side of Detroit, a man, yet to be identified, reportedly began shooting.

The attack resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman from a gunshot wound to the head and a 21-year-old man who succumbed to a bullet wound in his back.

The victims of this tragic event were aged between 17 and 28 years, according to police statements.

Among those injured, a 17-year-old girl is reported to be in critical condition.

Thirteen others have been categorized as being in serious condition, with three more reported as stable. Several victims were undergoing surgical procedures.

Initial reports indicated that the shooter, a 22-year-old man, was shot in his left leg, detained, and subsequently hospitalized in stable condition.

However, later updates clarified that no suspects were currently in custody.

This neighborhood in northeast Detroit is recognized as one of the city’s most perilous areas. Detroit Police Commissioner Ricardo Moore highlighted the troubling regularity of such violent incidents.

“The problem is the normalcy of these shootings. Come Jan. 1, the police will say crime is down, and then we’ll start all over again. Funeral homes, hospitals, and florists are the only people who profit from Detroit crime,” he stated.

Earlier incidents echo the persistent violence. On June 1, another large block party on the West Side was marred by gunfire that injured four individuals. A teenage girl was also fatally shot at a nearby party just over a week before the latest tragic event.

As investigations continued, both city police and the Michigan State Police were actively involved at the scene of the shooting. Fox 2 Detroit reported that efforts were being made to piece together the events that transpired.

The Michigan State Police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
