(TheRedAlertNews.com) – HAPPENING NOW: In the early morning hours of Tuesday, there was a mass shooting in downtown Denver, Colorado, during the massive street celebrations that took place after the Denver Nuggets beat the Miami Heat to win the National Basketball Association championship.
According to several news sources, the gunfire in Denver led to ten people being injured.
This happened in the area where basketball fans had been celebrating the Denver Nuggets’ first-ever NBA title victory.
Authorities swiftly responded, and a suspect has been arrested.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m., roughly three and a half hours after the game.
According to a statement from the Denver Police Department, three injured people are in critical condition. The suspect, identified as a man, was among seven individuals who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The location of the shooting was approximately a mile from Ball Arena, the site of the Nuggets’ match against the Miami Heat the previous evening.
Police spokesperson Doug Schepman spoke about the ongoing investigation, saying, “As far as what led up to this altercation that resulted in the shots being fired, that’s still under investigation at this time.” He added that the event took place in an area that had seen a large gathering of people celebrating throughout the night.
Evidence markers had been placed, and the area was cordoned off at the incident scene. Schepman noted that while a crowd was present at the time of the shooting, it had “diminished quite a bit at that point.” The incident occurred in a neighborhood where many would have been exiting bars after the game.
The police are actively engaging with witnesses, and Schepman describes the ongoing investigation as “expansive.”
