(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Kevin McCarthy, the recently elected Republican Speaker of the US House of Representatives, has vowed to make public all security video footage from the January 6, 2021, storming of the US Capitol.
“I want to be very thoughtful about it, but yes, I’m engaged to do that,” McCarthy told reporters at the end of last week after being asked whether he intended to release footage from that day.
McCarthy criticized his predecessor, former Democrat US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, for using the 1/6 video footage for political purposes.
“I think the public should see what happened on that day. I watched what Nancy Pelosi did, where she politicized it. Where for the first time in the history as a Speaker, not allowing the minority to appoint to a committee,” he stated.
The Speaker referred to Pelosi’s January 6 select committee, which included seven Democrats and two anti-Trump Republicans – the now former Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
“We watched the politicization of this. I think the American public should actually see what happened instead of a report that’s written on a political basis,” McCarthy said.
The Speaker’s intention was welcomed by Republican US Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, one of the leaders of the 20 GOP members from the House Freedom Caucus who strongly opposed McCarthy’s speakership until they were granted concessions.
“Kevin McCarthy told us he’s going to get the evidence out in front of the American people, and that means releasing the 14,000 hours of tapes that have been hidden. That I think would give more full context to that day, rather than the cherry-picked moments that the January 6 committee tried to use to inflame and further divide our country,” Gaetz commented in a media interview.
He also posted a tweet thanking McCarthy and praised his allies.
“Thank you to the 20 patriots who helped EARN this commitment from the Speaker. Thank you, Speaker McCarthy, for affirming this commitment you made. Keeping promises is how trust is built. I’m growing more optimistic by the day!”
House Republicans have insisted on releasing all security video footage from January 6, 2021.
In August, 23 Republicans led by former Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) sent a letter to Capitol Police Board Chairman William J. Walker insisting the release of the footage was “absolutely essential to proper governance and truth.”
At the time, a spokesperson for the Capitol Police said a decision on making it public “would ultimately be up to the Capitol Police Board.”
“The video has been designated security information and is therefore protected from public disclosure. Releasing it would ultimately be up to the Capitol Police Board and not the Department,” the US Capitol Police spokesperson reacted.
What is your opinion? Do you agree that all security video footage from January 6, 2021, at the US Capitol should be made public? Do you think Nancy Pelosi was hiding certain actions caught on video that day? Please share your thoughts by emailing [email protected]. Thank you.
