The host of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” was axed abruptly last month, days after the conservative TV network agreed to pay an almost $800 million settlement to Dominion Voting Systems in a defamation lawsuit over claims about fraud in the 2020 election.
According to pro-left pollsters The Economist and YouGov, cited by Breitbart News, more than one-quarter of American adults said they watch Fox News “less often” after Tucker Carlson’s ouster.
The poll respondents were asked how much they had watched Fox News after Carlson’s departure, with 26% saying they dedicated less time to the conservative media outlet after the unexpected development.
At the same time, 60% said they watched Fox “about the same,” while 14% said they watched it “more often” now that Carlson is gone.
However, the survey found an even steeper decline in Fox News’ Republican viewership, as 36% of GOP supporters said they watched it “less often” than when the former host was around.
The poll discovered that the decline in Fox’s viewership among independents is the same as the average, at 26%.
The Economist and YouGov survey was conducted among 1,500 adult Americans between May 6 and May 9.
It comes after Carlson recently announced he would start a new show that will air on Twitter, and that would begin “soon.”
“Starting soon, we will be doing a new version of the show we’ve been doing for six-and-a-half years to Twitter,” the former Fox News host said in a video posted to Twitter.
“We’ll bring some other things too, which we’ll tell you about. But for now, we’re just grateful to be here,” he declared.
“Free speech is the main right that you have. Without it, you have no others,” Carson said at the end of his video post.
The former host is still in a legal battle with his former employer since his contract with Fox News is valid until after the 2024 presidential election.
Breitbart’s report points out that the YouGov and Economist poll comes after several “anti-Tucker ‘leaks’ conveniently obtained by far-left media outlets,” including The New York Times and Media Matters.
The leaks show how the former host slams Fox News’ streaming service, jokes on set, and discusses the dangers of mob mentality.
“[Fox’s content has become] boring, not edgy. They don’t want to push the envelope. They don’t want to drive things forward at all. But again, they’re now getting in league with all these leftists and whatnot,” commented Breitbart News’s Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle before Newsmax.
“What’s happening is people are leaving Fox. They’re coming to places like Newsmax and Breitbart, which is great for us,” he stated.
