(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In new evidence of the resilience of evil in terms of international terrorism, the Islamist Palestinian Arab terror group Hamas has appointed the mastermind of the October 7 attack in Israel as its new leader, after the Jewish State assassinated its previous head.
Yahya Sinwar, identified as the architect of the October 7 terrorist attack, was made the new leader of Hamas, following the assassination of the former head, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran’s capital Tehran, The New York Post reports.
Sinwar has successfully evaded the Israeli military’s pursuit for nearly ten months and was named the new Politburo chief after Haniyeh’s recent death in a Tehran bombing.
The exact timeline for Sinwar’s official takeover remains undefined, and his degree of command is uncertain as he continues to lead Hamas from concealment within the war-afflicted Gaza.
There is little information regarding his whereabouts. Sinwar orchestrated the October 7th attack on Israel, resulting in over 1,400 fatalities and approximately 250 abductions.
The most recent sighting of Sinwar was recorded on October 10th, showing him navigating a Hamas tunnel with his family.
Despite the elimination of several Hamas commanders and the organization’s top military leader, Mohammed Deif, Sinwar’s location remains undisclosed.
Experts speculate that he might be in Gaza, within its extensive 300-mile tunnel network.
This marks a significant shift as many former political leaders of Hamas operated from outside the Palestinian enclave.
Colin Clarke, a counter-terrorism expert at the Soufan Group, noted that Sinwar has managed to survive by maintaining a low profile and allegedly using both Israeli hostages and Palestinian civilians as shields.
Clarke emphasized that remaining out of the public eye, which has so far preserved Sinwar’s safety, might be untenable if he is to lead Hamas fully.
As Politburo head, Sinwar is tasked with overseeing coordination among Hamas’ leadership, encompassing Gaza, the West Bank, the diaspora, and members incarcerated in Israeli prisons.
His leadership is anticipated to complicate the already precarious cease-fire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, as he has consistently disrupted attempts at compromise, advocating for continued conflict.
Previously, Sinwar earned the moniker “The Butcher of Khan Younis” for his ruthless elimination of individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel within Hamas.
Born in a Khan Younis refugee camp, Sinwar was arrested in 1988 and sentenced for the murders of two Israeli soldiers and four Palestinians.
Despite receiving a life sentence, he was released in 2011 after serving 23 years, part of a larger prisoner exchange for captured IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
