(TheRedAlertNews.com) – According to Guatemala’s authorities, a massive caravan of illegal immigrants set for the US-Mexican border has formed in Central America. It keeps growing as it moves in the northern direction.
The core of the illegal immigrant caravan is made up of citizens of Venezuela, a South American oil-rich nation in economic trouble ruled by the far-left dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro.
The migrant caravan reached the border between Honduras and Guatemala on Sunday, The Daily Caller reported, citing the office of Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei.
It had at least 2,000 people walking northward when it formed in the Honduran towns of Corinto and El Cinchado.
“Overall, we know that people don’t want to come to Guatemala to stay. We are a country of transit. It’s not lawful for them to get through because of the regional security,” said Guatemalan presidency spokesman Kevin Oliva.
“We asked for help from our partners in North America. However, at this time, only Mexico has provided us with support,” the spokesman complained.
The new caravan’s leader is Luis Villagran, who has already led several such marches of thousands of illegal immigrants into the United States.
The illegal immigrants’ leader revealed that another massive group of illegals is expected to reach Guatemala within ten days and walk north to the United States.
“Honestly, it is a phenomenon that is a tragedy however it is seen or perceived,” Villagran stated, arguing that the timing of the illegal immigrant groups heading towards the United States “isn’t political.”
More than 5 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States of America since Joe Biden because President 21 months ago.
That number includes more than 1 million gotaways who weren’t even detained by border patrol, according to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) estimates.
US border agents apprehended more than 2.1 million illegal immigrants only in the first 11 months of the 2022 fiscal year, which ended on September 30, an all-time record, not counting the gotaways.
According to the Daily Caller report, the authorities of Guatemala, a Central American nation of 17 million people and the last stop for migrant caravans before they reach Mexico, have been trying to crack down on human trafficking.
Migrant smugglers could face sentences of up to 30 years in prison and $25,000 fines under its legislation.
“Despite the lack of international support to confront this phenomenon, Guatemalan authorities are reaffirming their commitment to the region, guaranteeing the population’s security and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, considering that these groups represent a risk because they do not comply with migratory protocols,” the Guatemalan Presidency has declared in a statement.
