Last week, during a routine stroll through Kips Bay, the Brooklyn-born actor was the target of an unprovoked attack.

A violent assailant approached and struck the “Boardwalk Empire” star, causing facial swelling and injury to his left eye, according to law enforcement officials.

After the assault, Buscemi, 66, received medical attention at Bellevue Hospital, The New York Post reports.

Meanwhile, the attacker fled the scene and remains at large, as per police reports.

“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” Buscemi’s publicist said in a statement.

“He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York,” the statement added.

The attack occurred at approximately 11:48 a.m. outside 369 Third Avenue.

An eyewitness shared her observations with the media, noting, “I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards.”

She did not witness the assailant but expressed concern about safety in the area, particularly after business hours.

In response to the incident, the New York Police Department has circulated surveillance images of the suspect described as a bearded man in a baseball cap, blue t-shirt, and black sweatpants.

Steve Buscemi is widely recognized for his versatile acting career spanning four decades with notable roles in films such as “Fargo” and “Reservoir Dogs.”

He gained significant acclaim for his role as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson in the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.”

This recent attack marks the second instance of violence involving an actor from “Boardwalk Empire” this year. Previously, Michael Stuhlbarg, who portrayed Arnold Rothstein in the series, was assaulted in March.

The assailant in Stuhlbarg’s case, identified as Xavier Israel, was apprehended after the actor chased him towards police near the Russian Consulate.

Israel, who has a history of arrests for assault and robbery, attacked Stuhlbarg with a rock while the latter was jogging.

As investigations continue, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed that the suspect in Buscemi’s case is still at large.

Buscemi himself is a cherished New Yorker, remembered not only for his contributions to film but also for his heroics during the 9/11 attacks when he joined his former fire company to aid in the rescue efforts.
