Nestlé USA has announced the voluntary recall of specific Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals after multiple consumer complaints about wood fragments found in the food.
Reports have gone beyond mere product anomaly, escalating to concerns over a serious choking hazard from these unwanted materials.
Products distributed between September 2024 and March 2025 are the main targets of this recall.
The affected Lean Cuisine options include Butternut Squash Ravioli, Spinach Artichoke Ravioli, and Lemon Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry, while the Party Size Chicken Lasagna from Stouffer’s also makes the list.
Nestlé urges consumers to examine batch codes and refrain from consuming affected products.
Those who bought these items can return them for full refunds or replacements, Forbes reports.
Nestlé is conducting an investigation alongside the FDA and USDA to determine the contamination source.
The company considers this a precautionary move to avoid health risks, assuring consumers that the recall aims to protect their well-being.
Nestlé noted, “Certain batches of Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals are being voluntarily recalled due to the potential presence of ‘wood-like material.’”
Details about these batches, including expiration dates, are available on Nestlé USA’s and the FDA’s websites.
“We are taking this action after consumers contacted Nestlé USA about this issue, including one potential choking incident to date,” Nestlé said, cited by The New York Post.
Though the contamination is believed to be isolated, it’s a wakeup call against complacency in food safety.
This incident represents a minor fraction of recalls compared to bacteria-related ones like listeria or salmonella.
In 2024, the U.S. logged 296 recall announcements, showing the food industry’s vigilance in disaster prevention.
