(TheRedAlertNews.com) – The largest sheriff’s organizations in the United States issued a call for the destruction of Mexican drug cartels because of the American deaths these organized crime groups are causing each year.
The sheriff’s associations also urged the American public to pressure elected officials to take measures against the drug cartels.
In a joint statement, they mentioned, in particular, the two largest Mexican drug cartels – the Sinaloa Cartel and the Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG).
The statement was signed by the National Sheriff’s Association, Major County Sheriffs of America, Western States Sheriffs’ Association, Southwestern Border Sheriffs’ Coalition, and Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition.
The five sheriffs’ associations stated that Sinaloa and CJNC were the two main forces behind the smuggling of illicit drugs into the United States, leading to violence and overdose deaths.
The sheriffs’ statement was shared on social media by Sheriff Eddie Guerra, Hidalgo County, Texas, a Democrat, who asked for public support to help force Mexico to eradicate the cartels.
The statement reminds the American public of the 9/11 attacks, where “terrorists killed 2,977 innocent people.”
“[After 9/11, the US response] included declaring war on terrorism and bringing justice to the victims of this unthinkable tragedy by holding terrorists and terrorist countries accountable,” the sheriffs’ declared.
At the same time, they pointed out that the US has suffered 107,000 drug overdose deaths in 12 months, primarily because of the fentanyl smuggled into America by the two largest Mexican drug cartels – and the US authorities had barely reacted.
“This crisis has caused 35 more times the amount of death to American citizens in one year than was inflicted upon the US on September 11th by Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden,” the sheriffs emphasized.
The call to action from the sheriffs’ associations comes after last Wednesday, 21 Republican state Attorneys General sent a letter to President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken calling for designating the Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations.
The AGs argued that the Mexican cartels were now threatening America’s national security far beyond drugs since they had formed private armies.
“The existence of such forces just across our southwestern land border, and the Mexican government’s inability to control them, pose a threat to our national security far greater than a typical drug-trafficking enterprise,” they declared.
Their letter pointed out the drug cartels’ known ties to Islamist terrorists such pro-Iranian Lebanese group Hezbollah.
“The cartels’ intense violence goes far beyond mere resistance to interference with their drug trafficking and now encompasses a general effort to intimidate rivals and expand their influence. This violence, which necessarily involves using firearms and explosives to kill security forces, plainly constitutes terrorist activity,” the 21 Republican AGs declared.
