(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Former President Donald Trump recently declared his support for the primary challenger of Republican Virginia Representative Bob Good, who serves as the chairman of the influential House Freedom Caucus.
This endorsement was given on Tuesday in favor of Republican State Senator John McGuire of Virginia, as revealed in a post on Truth Social.
This political maneuver comes after a period during which Trump has vocally criticized Good, following Good’s endorsement of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the presidential nomination in 2023.
The upcoming primary election for Virginia’s 5th Congressional District is swiftly approaching, with the date set for June 18.
This election holds particular significance due to the tensions within the party highlighted by this endorsement, The Daily Caller points out in a report.
Trump’s support for McGuire was explicitly detailed in his post.
“Bob Good is BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA. He turned his back on our incredible movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave a warm and ‘loving’ Endorsement – But really, it was too late,” Trump stated.
“The damage had been done! I just want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and the person that can most help me do that is Navy Seal and highly respected State Legislator, John McGuire, a true American Hero. John, who fought the Cartels on the Front Line, and then came home and fought the drug dealers in Virginia, will ALWAYS PUT AMERICA FIRST,” he added.
The context of Good’s political positioning is marked by his support of the motion to vacate which led to the ousting of then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in October. This indicates a broader internal conflict within the Republican Party.
Trump’s campaign manager, Chris LaCivita, provided a stark outlook on Good’s political future: “Good won’t be electable when we get done with him,” as reported earlier this year by Cardinal News.
This statement came after Good shifted his endorsement to Trump following DeSantis’s withdrawal from the presidential race.
Trump elaborated on his reasons for supporting McGuire.
“I had the safest Border in history, built hundreds of miles of Wall, and then Crooked Joe Biden came along and ruined it, making it one of the worst human catastrophes ever in our Country,” he asserted.
“John and I will correct this situation, and fast! He is strong on crime, will protect our great Military/Vets, and will always defend our under siege Second Amendment. John McGuire has my Complete and Total Endorsement! MAGA2024,” Trump concluded.
In a revealing incident, Good reportedly called the police on a group of Trump supporters after being removed from a Trump event in Farmville, Virginia.
