Trump Will SHUT IT DOWN

Donald Trump

(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In a new expression of his commitment to empowering states, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has vowed to shut down the US Department of Education if elected in November.

Trump has advocated for the abolition of the Department of Education, proposing instead to transfer control back to individual states, should he win reelection, Breitbart News reports.

In an interview with Elon Musk on X Spaces, Trump articulated his dissatisfaction with the current state of U.S. education, observing that, despite the U.S. leading global expenditure per student, educational outcomes have continued to decline relative to other developed nations.

“The 45th president pointed out that U.S. education scores are tumbling compared to other developed countries, even though the United States spends ‘more per pupil than any other country in the world,’” the former president stated.

“I want to close the Department of Education — move education back to the states…” Trump elucidated to Musk, who is both the CEO of Tesla and the owner of X.

Trump argued that granting states autonomy over education could potentially lower costs and stimulate beneficial competition among them.

“But if you moved education back to the 50 [states], you’ll have some that won’t do well…But they’ll actually be forced to do better because it’ll be a pretty bad situation,” he stated.

“But if you think about it, you’ll have some of these states — I’ll bet you’d have 30, 35 states [where education] will be much better. And you know what? It’ll cost less than half what it is in Washington. And these people don’t care about the students in these far away states,” Trump elaborated.

“It would be unbelievable,” he emphasized.

Musk concurred with Trump’s assessment, suggesting that such decentralization would empower Americans to select their state of residence based on the quality of educational opportunities.

“Yeah. I think you’re making a good point in that if…each individual state has to compete against other states, then people will naturally move to states where it’s better,” Musk agreed.

“That’s right,” Trump responded.

This is not the first instance Trump has criticized the Department of Education. In 2016, he stated that it “can be largely eliminated.”

His former US Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, has also supported the department’s dissolution.

The concept of dismantling the Department of Education has garnered support from others in Trump’s party.

Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) endorsed Trump’s position in a post on X, reiterating his advocacy for his legislation, HR899, which aims to terminate the department.
