(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In a distressing case of a food product recall, Costco has recalled nearly 11,000 units of its Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised Eggs due to potential Salmonella contamination, a growing concern for American consumers who value safety and transparency in the food supply chain.
Over 10,000 cartons of eggs sold at Costco have been recalled because of potential Salmonella contamination.
The concern arose following a discovery of contamination in eggs supplied by Handsome Brook Farms.
These Organic Pasture Raised 24-count egg cartons—sold across Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee—have the UPC 9661910680, Julian code 327, and a “Use By” date of January 5, 2025.
This recall, initiated by Handsome Brook Farms, has been made in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
It follows the discovery that eggs not intended for retail were mistakenly packaged and ended up on store shelves.
Although no illnesses have been reported, Salmonella poses a significant threat, causing symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, particularly in young children and vulnerable adults.
“Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA said in a statement.
Consumers are instructed to return the affected eggs to Costco for a full refund or to dispose of them.
Handsome Brook Farms has voluntarily taken measures to prevent recurrence, including enhanced supply chain controls and retraining.
