VIDEO: Biden Calls Black Entertainer ‘Boy’

Joe Biden

( – In an unbelievable gaffe that would end the career of any Republican politician – a blunder that should hurt him with a vital demographic for his reelection bid, Joe Biden used a racist term to refer to a black rapper.

The president’s blunder occurred Saturday night while giving a speech to the Congressional Black Caucus, The New York Post reports.

You can watch a video of what happened further down this post.

Biden spoke at the annual awards dinner of the 52nd Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, DC.

The event saw the presentation of the Phoenix Award to rappers James Todd Smith, known as LL Cool J, and Lana Michele Moorer, known as MC Lyte, for their musical achievements.

As he sought to commend the two rappers, Biden first mistakenly referred to the former as “LL Jay Cool J” and then called him a “boy” before correcting himself and calling him a “man.”

The report notes that when used about African American men, the word “boy” is deemed a “racial epithet.”

It adds that 80-year-old Biden has a “history” of addressing politicians younger than himself as “boy,” including black men.

For instance, earlier this year, he used the word to refer to Wes Moore, Maryland’s first black governor.

A video of the president’s latest gaffe was posted on X by the Republican National Committee, with the tweet also transcribing his exact quote.

“Two of the great artists of our time representing the groundbreaking legacy of hip hop in America, LL Jay Cool J, uhhhhhh…,” the president said at the Congressional Black Caucus event, interrupting himself and sparking laughter in the audience.

“By the way, that boy’s got…,” he continued before correcting himself, “— that man’s got biceps bigger than my thighs. I think he’s been….”

His words were met with applause, after which he immediately acknowledged the other awarded rapper.

“And MC Lyte. Both of you, thank you,” Biden said, followed by audience cheers.

The Post notes that the president’s use of the word “boy” to describe LL Cool J sparked a noticeable backlash.

“Ohhh god make it stop PLLLEASE . he’s making a total mockery of this country,” commented X user @Johnnypatriot64  to the post with the video.

The report points out that in 2019, Biden was scolded by US Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), who declared, “You don’t joke about calling black men ‘boys.’”
