(TheRedAlertNews.com) – President Joe Biden got heckled during a “gun control” speech he was giving at the White House – and the heckler was the father of one of the students killed in 2018 during the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
You can watch the video of Biden being heckled further down this post.
Biden was touting new legislation he signed into law to restrict gun ownership for under-21-year-olds when he got heckled by Manuel Oliver, a Florida native who has become an activist for gun safety since his son’s killing.
The interruption seemingly left Biden uncertain about what to do for a few moments.
“Let him talk, let him talk,” Biden said as the activist shot down his speech and shouted, “we should be doing more” on gun ownership.
“Am I supposed to listen to the package of bills that don’t solve the problem,” Oliver could be heard shouting, standing up in the audience on the South Lawn of the White House, as he was being confronted by Secret Service agents.
The president recovered and continued his speech only thanks to the officers’ intervention, who quickly escorted the gun safety activist out of the event.
“Make no mistake, sit down, you’ll hear what I have to say…Make no mistake about it, this legislation is real progress but more has to be done. The provision of this new legislation is gonna save lives and is proof that in today’s politics we can come together on a bipartisan basis to get important things done. Even on an issue as tough as guns,” Biden argued.
A total of 17 people were killed in the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, in February 2017, including Manuel Oliver’s son Joaquin. Another 17 people were injured.
Hours before interrupting Biden’s speech, Oliver spoke on CNN, where he blasted the Biden administration and the congressional Democrats because, in his view, their new gun safety law is too weak, and there is nothing to celebrate about it.
“There was no reason for this event to be called as it’s called right now. Like, we are celebrating again together in the White House.”
The new “gun control” act passed by Congress has been billed as bipartisan as some Republican legislators also supported it.
It provides for increased background checks on Americans under 21 years of age seeking to purchase firearms.
