The 2024 presidential race has taken an unexpected turn as it becomes more of a family matter, with relatives of Walz openly supporting former President Trump, WND points out in a report.
An image has been shared online showing eight members of the Walz family sporting Trump T-shirts, gathered beneath a Trump 2024 campaign banner.
The photo, originally shared by a family friend, was later reposted by Charles W. Herbster, a Trump associate and former gubernatorial candidate in Nebraska.
Herbster captioned it: “Tim Walz’s family back in Nebraska wants you to know something.”
Trump then shared it on his Truth Social account.
Regarding the photograph’s authenticity, a representative for Herbster confirmed to Newsweek that those pictured are related to Walz through his great-uncle, and the family friend had permission to distribute it.
Meanwhile, Tim Walz’s brother, Jeff Walz, expressed his disapproval of the Minnesota governor on Facebook, stating, “I’m 100% opposed to all his ideology.”
He also mentioned that his family was not informed of Tim’s selection as a running mate and lamented the lack of security following the announcement.
In response to a Trump supporter’s suggestion on Facebook to endorse Trump publicly, Jeff wrote, “I’ve thought hard about doing something like that! I’m torn between that and just keeping my family out of it. The stories I could tell. Not the type of character you want making decisions about your future.”
In an interview with NewsNation, Jeff clarified his intentions, emphasizing that his goal was not to sway voters but to inform friends and family of his political stance.
“It wasn’t my intent, it wasn’t our intent as a family, to put something out there to influence the general public,” he explained.
He added that his use of Facebook was to dispel assumptions that he shared his brother’s views, although he admitted it might not have been the best platform for such a statement.
NewsNation highlighted that the “stories” Jeff referred to were harmless family memories, like Tim getting carsick on trips.
“Nobody wanted to sit with him, because he had car sickness and would always throw up on us, that sort of thing,” Jeff recounted.
He assured that these stories were not politically charged, but rather typical family anecdotes.
