(TheRedAlertNews.com) – After dismissing Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s (R) promise to bus illegal immigrants out of Texas to Washington, D.C., and other states as a “publicity stunt,” the White House now blames the Governor for delays at the border.
On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki argued that Abbott’s insistence that trucks arriving at the Texas border with Mexico be thoroughly inspected was causing “significant disruptions” to supply chains.
In a statement, Psaki claimed, “Governor Abbott’s unnecessary and redundant inspections of trucks transiting ports of entry between Texas and Mexico are causing significant disruptions to the food and automobile supply chains, delaying manufacturing, impacting jobs, and raising prices for families in Texas and across the country.”
Her statements follow Abbott’s direction that state troopers should inspect commercial vehicles which federal officers had already searched after President Joe Biden announced he was rescinding Title 42.
Psaki noted that truckers are experiencing longer than five-hour delays, adding that commercial traffic at the southern border had declined by 60 percent.
In her statement, Psaki added, “The continuous flow of legitimate trade and travel and CBP’s [Custom and Border Protection] ability to do its job should not be obstructed. Governor Abbott’s actions are impacting people’s jobs and the livelihoods of hardworking American families.”
According to a report by The Texas Tribune, no commercial vehicles crossed the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, the busiest bridge in the area, as truckers on the Mexican side of the bridge blocked traffic in protest.
According to Reuters, Abbott’s justification for the additional searches had to do with “cartels that smuggle illicit contraband and people across our southern border.”
