Kristi Noem SLAMS California Governor

Kristi Noem with long dark hair frowns slightly.

In a perfectly deserved rebuke, Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security, has decried Governor Gavin Newsom’s inept response to violent immigration protests in Los Angeles, pointing to his governance as the reason President Trump had to take unprecedented action.

The chaos resulted in injured immigration officers and the National Guard’s unsanctioned deployment—something unseen since 1965.

President Trump decided to deploy National Guard troops to Los Angeles without any formal request from California Governor Gavin Newsom.

This action marked the first time since 1965 that a president unilaterally activated a state’s National Guard.

Secretary Kristi Noem sharply criticized Newsom, stating, “President Trump was forced to deploy National Guard troops because Gov. Gavin Newsom failed to stop the violent protests,” cited by The Washington Times.

Violence against immigration officers has placed the community on edge. Noem argued that the injuries sustained by authorities stemmed from Newsom’s inability to manage the protest situations effectively.

She noted, “We wouldn’t have officers with a shattered wrist from bricks being thrown through their vehicles, their vehicles being burned, flags being burned in the street and Molotov cocktails being thrown.”

Newsom, however, called Trump’s decision a political “spectacle.”

He maintained that his administration had the situation under control through local law enforcement.

Despite Newsom’s assurances, National Guard members began arriving in the city just as the protests raged against Trump’s immigration policies.

Governor Newsom cautioned that deploying the National Guard could exacerbate tensions.

Noem defended Trump’s actions as necessary, citing delay from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in responding to a backup call from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The authority to maintain public order, she explained, compelled the president to act.

“The president knows that he makes bad decisions, and that’s why the president chose the safety of this community over waiting for Governor Newsom to get some sanity,” Noem said.

President Trump and his administration have repeatedly criticized Governor Newsom, portraying him as a radical liberal who is more of a detriment to public safety than an ally.

As violent protests continue to escalate, it becomes apparent that the actions—or inactions—of state leaders remain under the microscope of the Trump administration.
