President Trump did not mince words as he threatened to arrest New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, describing him as a “pure, true communist” and “total nut job” who threatens American values.

Trump’s harsh condemnation comes as Mamdani, who could become the city’s first Muslim mayor, pledges to block ICE operations and implement radical left policies that would fundamentally transform America’s largest city.
Trump addressed Mamdani’s candidacy during a recent press conference.
“Frankly, I’ve heard he’s a total nut job. I think the people of New York are crazy. If they go this route, I think they’re crazy. We will have a Communist in the for the first time, really a pure, true Communist,” Trump declared, highlighting the extreme nature of Mamdani’s political platform.
Mamdani recently defeated former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democrat primary, securing 56% of the vote.
His radical agenda includes blocking ICE arrests, establishing government-run grocery stores, dramatically increasing taxes on wealthy residents, and opposing Trump’s deportation plans – policies that directly challenge federal authority and constitutional principles.
When asked how he would respond to Mamdani’s pledge to obstruct federal immigration enforcement, Trump’s answer was direct: “Well then, we’ll have to arrest him.”
The President made it clear that federal law supersedes local obstruction, with ICE Director Tom Homan reinforcing that “Federal law trumps him every day, every hour of every minute.”
“I think he’s terrible. He’s a Communist. The last thing we need is a Communist. I said there will never be socialism in the United States. Now we have a Communist,” Trump stated about Mamdani.
Mamdani’s far-left credentials are well-established.
He co-founded a Students for Justice in Palestine chapter, participated in a hunger strike for a Gaza ceasefire, and has refused to denounce the phrase “Globalize the intifada.”
A 2021 video shows him supporting the idea of “seizing the means of production” – classic communist rhetoric rarely heard from mainstream American politicians.
Even fellow Democrats are distancing themselves from Mamdani’s extreme positions.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has withheld her endorsement, while Representatives Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen have criticized his far-left proposals.
His platform for “Trump-proofing” NYC includes removing ICE, establishing government-controlled grocery stores, and implementing punitive taxes on successful New Yorkers.
“Look, we don’t need a communist in this country, but if we have one, I’m going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation,” Trump warned.
Though Mamdani has secured endorsements from socialist leaders like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Trump made it clear that federal funding for New York City will be contingent on compliance with federal laws.
“I think we’re gonna have a lot of fun with him, because he has to go right through this building to get his money. Don’t worry, he’s not gonna run away with anything,” Trump assured Americans.
With the general election scheduled for November 4, New York voters face a stark choice: embrace Mamdani’s socialist vision or reject his radical agenda that threatens law enforcement, private enterprise, and constitutional governance.
Trump’s warning could not be clearer – electing a self-described democratic socialist would fundamentally transform America’s largest city into a testing ground for communist policies.
