(TheRedAlertNews.com) – A Republican US lawmaker has been accused of violating his conservative values by moving in with a mistress and abandoning his wife, who has now filed for divorce, claiming her husband has had at least two affairs over the years.
US Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC), a member of the House of Representatives since 2011, has allegedly left his family after 34 years of marriage to live with a younger woman, The New York Post reports.
His alleged mistress is Liz Williams, a lobbyist based in the Washington, DC – Alexandria, Virginia area.
“[Congressman Duncan] admitted this adulterous relationship to many people, including [the couple’s three sons] and members of his staff,” reads his wife Melody Duncan’s divorce filing.
The court papers claim the South Carolina Republican boasted about his affair in his wife’s face. At the same time, while campaigning for reelection, he deceived his constituents that he had a healthy marriage.
The Post notes that as recently as last month, the 57-year-old congressman spoke during his 12th annual Faith and Freedom BBQ, stating that Melody was a “supportive and loving wife.”
The event, one of his home state’s biggest GOP gatherings, usually features thousands of visitors.
“[Duncan] then left the next day and went directly to the home of his paramour, Liz Williams, in the Washington DC area, where [Melody] is informed and believes he continues to reside,” his wife’s court filing alleges.
“[Melody] is informed and believes that [Duncan’s] extramarital relationship(s) is/are widely known in political circles in South Carolina and Washington DC,” the court documents add.
The papers also say that, in order “to justify the hypocrisy of his public statements and his private actions,” the congressman started rumors that his marriage had been “loveless.”
Melody Duncan believes that her husband has had at least one other affair.
The report notes that the US House’s lobbying disclosure page features a registered lobbying firm named “Liz Williams and Co.,” which has seven clients, including Delta Air Lines.
It adds that Rep. Jeff Duncan, who represents South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District, has advertised himself as a defender of the nuclear family.
“As a life-long social conservative, I am a strong advocate for life and traditional family values,” his government page reads.
