(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In a show of unflinching support for US ally Israel, a Republican US Senator has declared that the Israeli military must “destroy” the Islamist terrorist group Hamas, and should go into the southern city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip to do so.
In a Fox News Sunday interview, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) emphasized the critical need for Israel to launch a military operation in Rafah in order to dismantle Hamas.
“Number one, [Israel] needs American support; they have to go into Rafah to destroy Hamas,” he declared.
This statement came shortly after Scott’s visit to Israel, where he had discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other key officials.
The Biden administration, including President Biden himself, has voiced apprehension about Israel’s strategy concerning Rafah, a city in the Gaza Strip bordering Egypt.
This area is currently providing shelter to millions displaced by the ongoing conflict, which began after, on October 7, Hamas massacred over 1,400 people in Israel.
Despite the U.S. government’s concerns, Israeli leadership, including Netanyahu, has resolved to proceed with their plans to invade Rafah. Netanyahu has been quoted saying that the invasion is the only feasible solution to eradicate Hamas from the region.
Scott underscored the necessity of American backing for Israel but noted that Israel is prepared to proceed with their plans regardless of U.S. support.
Israel’s military actions against Hamas, designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and in control of Gaza since 2007, have resulted in over 32,700 deaths since the conflict’s inception in October, according to the Hamas-controlled authorities, The Hill reports.
The significant casualties and extensive destruction in Gaza have stirred concerns among some U.S. lawmakers, particularly Democrats, regarding Israel’s military strategies.
In light of these events, Scott criticized the Democratic party and the Biden administration for their lack of support for Israel.
“I think the Biden administration, Democrats need to change their tune. They vote against Israel aid. I mean, this is disgusting … what the Biden administration is doing. Support Israel, they’ve got to kill Hamas, they’ll never get their country back,” the GOP senator said.
