DeSantis Crashes

(TheRedAlertNews.com) – Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign has crashed into deep trouble as he has lost his hold on second place in the 2024 GOP presidential nomination race, slipping far behind another bidder, Nikki Haley, a new poll in New Hampshire shows.

Florida’s governor has fallen to 10% support among likely Republican primary voters in the early-voting state. In contrast, according to the new survey, Haley, a former South Carolina governor, has gone up to 19%.

The poll by Suffolk University, The Boston Globe, and USA Today confirms other poll findings that Haley is now second only behind former President Donald Trump in the Granite State.

The survey released Wednesday morning demonstrates that Trump keeps his massive lead in the Republican nomination race with 49% support among the state’s likely primary voters.

None of the other candidates polled in the double digits with New Hampshire Republicans. Chris Christie, the former New Jersey governor, scored 6% support, followed by US Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy with 4%.

Former Vice President Mike Pence and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum polled at 1%.

The Suffolk University poll interviewed 500 New Hampshire Republicans between September 29 and October 2, after the second GOP presidential candidate debate on September 27. It has a margin of error of 4.4%.

The pro-left news outlet Politico calls the findings “the latest measure of Haley’s bounce — and DeSantis’ backslide.”

It notes that DeSantis “ones led Trump” in New Hampshire, according to a poll from January 2023.

Yet, his campaign is now in “freefall,” while Haley is surging thanks to her “standout” performance in the two GOP primary debates.

Politico hypothesizes that her rise could “energize” those Republicans who are critical of frontrunner Donald Trump.

A report by conservative news outlet National Review concludes that “Nikki Haley has definitively surpassed Ron DeSantis” in the contest for second place in New Hampshire.

It comments that “Trump has apparently noticed Haley’s post-debate momentum” since he used to ignore her candidacy but has started attacking her by calling her “birdbrain.”

In a Truth Social post last Friday, the former president accused “Birdbrain Nikki,” whom he appointed as the US ambassador to the UN, of disloyalty.

Subsequently, over the weekend, the Trump campaign sent a birdcage and bird food to her hotel room in a bid “to antagonize” her.
